A Greater Testimony

Sermon Notes:

1. Three Witnesses.

a) If Jesus is the Son of God, you must follow Him and make Him the Lord of your life.

b) The testimony of God: the water, the blood, and the Spirit declare Jesus is God’s Son.

2. Faith in the Son.

a) You don’t have to search for the truth about Jesus, it is given to you.

b) If you believe, you will have eternal life, if you don’t believe you will not have eternal life.

Questions for further thought or discussion:

  1. Why is it so important that we believe that Jesus is the divine Son of God, and wasn’t just a wise man?
  2. If Jesus really is the divine Son of God, what are the practical implications of this on our life?
  3. What does John mean when he says “the water”, “the blood”, and “the Spirit” all testify about Jesus?
  4. What is “eternal life”?
  5. Why does the world vehemently reject the statement in 1 John 5:12  ?

Person Commitment

Lord Jesus, I believe that you are the divine Son of God, the only way to life, and I will follow you and put you at the center of my life.

1 John 5:6-12

This is he who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. For there are three that testify: the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree. If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son. 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. 11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
