Eternal Life

Sermon Notes:

1. It’s Personal.

a) John’s message was about someone he knew personally.

b) To know Jesus personally, we must strive to hear Him, see Him, and touch Him.

2. Eternal Life.

a) Eternal life is knowing the Father and the Son.

b) The goal of our message is for others to believe and enjoy the eternal life that we have found.

Questions for further thought of discussion:

1. What are ways in which we can hear, see, or touch Jesus today?

2. How would you define eternal life?  How does Jesus define eternal life? (John 17:3  )

3. In what ways are we tempted to search for life apart from God?

4. What were John’s objectives in writing this letter? (Remember to observe the times he says “so that”)

Person Commitment

Lord, help me to find true joy as I grow in my personal relationship with You.  Help me to hear Your voice, see You in my world, and touch Your through worship and acts of sacrificial love.

1 John 1:1-4

1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us— that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.
