Sermon Notes:

1. Two Roads.

a) There are only two roads in life, the way of righteousness or the way of wickedness.

b) Blessed people develop a lifestyle of considering God’s ways in every situation.

2. Two Destinations.

a) Discover the source of life and get rooted in it.

b) Only the way of righteousness leads to everlasting life!

Questions for further thought or discussion.

  1. According to Psalm 1:1  , what are the things a “blessed” person does not do?  How are these types of wickedness manifested today?
  2. What does it look like today to delight in His law and to meditate on it day and night?
  3. What does it mean to be planted by streams of water and what happens if we are?
  4. What are some keys to living a righteous life?  What is the destination of those who do?

Personal Commitment

Lord, grant us the fullness of Your Spirit and the discipline to follow the path of righteousness that we might shine with Your light forever.

Psalm 1

Blessed is the man
    who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
    nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
    and on his law he meditates day and night.

He is like a tree
    planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
    and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
The wicked are not so,
    but are like chaff that the wind drives away.

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
    nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
    but the way of the wicked will perish.
